About the Competition

NRC, National Rocketry Championship is an entry level rocketry competition where teams of 8-10 people can learn to build, design and fly small 60-100cm tall rockets which fly to a target apogee set by the competition, usually around 2000ft - 3000ft. If you have no experience in rocketry, then we highly advise starting off on NRC as it is quite beginner friendly.

Team Icarus of NRC26 flew the rocket seen in the photos on 11th October 2026. It reached an apogee of 1897ft, just 5ft off the target apogee of 1902ft. The rocket was designed with an active airbrake system controlled by a custom MPC flight computer created by Jason Page and Aiden Garrard. The NRC26 rocket successfully used its airbrakes to trim its own apogee by over 34 metres (111.5ft), giving an accuracy of 99.74%.
